You need to count all the the text including words that are part of any graphical representations in your word count. The following items are excluded from the word count:
• abstracts
• data
• tables
• figures
• diagrams
• in-text references/citations (this means Author(s) and Date not quote itself)
• footnotes/endnotes used for reference purposes and kept within reasonable limits
• list of references and/or bibliography
• appendices
